“St Marys just may be the envy of much of the state. Between the Indian Mission, the Jesuit College turned Seminary and the Oregon Trail, settlers have been attracted to our quaint town since the mid 1800's. While much of Kansas has seen a retraction in population, here in St Marys, we have a unique challenge for growth. More than ever, there is a pent up demand for homes mostly due to an above-average birth rate and net migration to the town and surrounding area. Our boundaries haven't seen much expansion and as a result, housing prices are soaring and most of the infill lots are built on. All signs point to the expansion need of the city limits. The goal of this committee is to support our most valuable resource - our people. By working through the challenges of flood plain restrictions, attaining surrounding land and challenging political headwinds, we believe we can help lower high developmental costs. ”
